Kill The Irishman

Excellent, excellent movie..
An Irish Angel watching over my shoulders....

By the end of the movie, I had developed a certain amount of respect for character of Danny Greene (Ray Stevenson). It's been really long since I last liked an movie on organized crime, especially after Godfather trilogy. This one talks about the a Danny Greene's original story. It is not what Godfather was but it is something, nonetheless.

I guess you'd say you don't believe in lucky charms, right! But, I knew exactly when he was going to die..

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Download torrent for Battlefield Bad Company 2-RELOADED

Strangely.. a few days back I was telling my friends that during some past years, I have felt that I develop love for what I usually hate initially.. And this is just another example of the same.. Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

A year or so back when I first saw the poster of Battlefield.. I thought its just another First Person Shooting (FPS) game.. falling in the genre of Call of Duty or Medal of Honor.. And a feeling of detestation lingered for quite some time..

And today when I have played both Medal of Honor 2010 (finished the campaign in 13 hrs) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (campaign finished 10 hrs), I am flabbergasted by Battlefield..

Somewhere I read.. "Battlefield took the same elements as in COD or MOH and just put them a 1000 notches up ..". Damn.. its utterly true..

Below are the images that I saved as screen-shots from the game..

Projector Resolution: Native vs. Maximum

I have found a good and informative page on projector resolution. So, I thought I would share it on this blog..
For the moment, it is what I was looking for..

By Evan Powell, April 6, 2005 (ProjectorCentral.com)

If you are like a lot of folks getting into projectors for the first time, you may be confused by the fact that every projector has TWO separate specifications for resolution: native and maximum. Why two different specs, and what is the difference between them?

It is actually pretty simple. Every projector that uses microdisplays, whether they are LCD panels, or DLP or LCOS chips, has a fixed array of pixels on those microdisplays. That fixed array of pixels is known as the native resolution of the projector. So native resolution is the actual, true, physical resolution of the projector. The projector will never be able to display more actual pixels than it has on those panels or chips.
So then what is maximum resolution? Well, that number has nothing to do with the projector's physical display. Instead it has to do with signal formats. Computer and video signals come in a wide variety of resolution formats. And every projector is programmed to recognize many of those different signals. Maximum resolution is the highest resolution signal that the projector has been programmed to process and display.

Converting non-native signal formats to native resolution

When a projector gets a signal that does not match its native resolution, it must convert that signal to the format of its native resolution in order to display it properly. This conversion process is commonly referred to as scaling.

So for example, let's assume you have a video projector with a native resolution of 1280x720 that is capable of displaying an HDTV 1080i signal. That means that the projector's physical pixel matrix is 1280 pixels wide by 720 pixels in height. However, each frame of video in an HDTV 1080i signal contains 1920x1080 pixels, which is a lot more than the projector has on its physical display. So in order to display the 1080i signal the projector must compress it into a 1280x720 format. It can do this because it has been programmed to do the compression from 1920x1080 to 1280x720. Furthermore, if 1920x1080 is the highest resolution that your projector has been programmed to recognize and compress into its native display, then 1920x1080 is known as the maximum resolution of that projector.

Sometimes the incoming signal format is smaller than the native resolution of the display. For example, let's assume you have a native XGA resolution projector, and you are displaying a standard NTSC television signal. In this case, your projector has a native 1024x768 pixel array. But a regular NTSC television signal is only 640x480 pixels. So the projector must "scale" or expand that television signal up from 640x480 pixels to 1024x768 pixels in order to display the image full frame.

Conversely, in our previous example, we talked about converting a larger 1920x1080 signal into a smaller 1280x720 display. Technically speaking, that is known as compression since you are compressing the signal to fit the display. However, it is less common to use the term compression these days. In typical usage, the term scaling refers to any conversion of a data or video signal to a projector's native display format, whether it is being scaled up (expanded), or scaled down (compressed).

No matter what, you always lose something in scaling

The conversion of a non-native signal to a native resolution is a process of approximation. In essence, what the projector is doing is estimating what the pixel information would have been if the signal had been created in the projector's native resolution to begin with. In doing this, the projector cannot add new information to the original signal. The best it can hope to do is make a very close approximation and not lose much picture detail the process. So contrary to what you might think, when an XGA projector scales a television signal up from 640x480 to 1024x768, it does not add detail or sharpness. In actuality the picture will usually look a bit softer than it would if the projector had a native 640x480 display and avoided the scaling to begin with.

Overall, the scaling engines have gotten to be very accurate with video these days. Quite often a scaled video image looks just about as clear and crisp as it would if displayed in its own native format. However, this is not as true of computer data signals. So let's focus on data projection for a moment. It is common for a native XGA resolution projector (1024x768) to have, say, SXGA (1280x1024) listed as its maximum resolution. All that means is that you can feed a 1280x1024 computer signal into the projector. However, when the projector compresses this signal into its native 1024x768 display, the picture will be somewhat fuzzier (sometimes a lot fuzzier) than it would be if the signal was native XGA to begin with.

So if you are going to give a data presentation using the Internet, or text documents, or financial spreadsheets, you will want to have the sharpest image possible. In this situation, you will be better off to ignore the projector's maximum resolution spec—the fact that the projector can accept a higher resolution signal does not mean you will get a sharper image. Instead, make sure to set your computer's output resolution to match the native resolution of the projector; if you have a native XGA projector, then set your computer to output 1024x768. This will eliminate any scaling or compression, and give you the cleanest possible data image that your projector is capable of.

Hilarious .. outrageously hilarious..
This a true example of a work of art which can be great even though it is not accurate..I mean its one thing to have perfect animation with perfect shapes and motion and physics.. and completely another to have creativity that can make you laugh or at least enjoy like hell.

I enjoyed this one like a child.. all the way ..

It is about a couple who start with a lot of good things in their life, a husband who is extremely good and understanding, a wife who is more than sufficient to keep life moving on and is definitely sexy, a beautiful daughter... what the fuck can go wrong with such a good life? Nothing, but wait a minute.. did I mention boredom, even to such a good life..

Relationship between Food and Fertility

Hi,
today I went on to have an aggressive discussion with a dear friend of mine on whether there exists any relation between the diet of a female and her fertility. I happened to remember this from various discussion with people I believe had some real knowledge. But, my friend insisted that there is no written proof on any such connection. I hope the below material can give some hint that indeed there is some link between a female's food habits and her fertilty..

Nonetheless, there might be something which might be of general interest to many females out there. Therefore, I thought I must post it on my blog.. it may help some body. But of course, read the caveat below ..

Two most important lines that I can quote are

"that during starvation, adult nematode worms can put reproduction on hold – destroying any existing sex cells and regenerating a new crop of healthy eggs from a few remaining stem cells once conditions improve."

"Anorexia or starvation causes difficulties in conceiving and carrying a baby to term."

HOWEVER, NONE OF THE BELOW INFORMATION IS MEANT TO BE CONCLUSIVE THEREFORE DO NOT DRAW ANY CONCLUSIONS OR CHANGE YOUR DIETARY HABIT UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND THE TEXT PERFECTLY WELL OR AT LEAST CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR FIRST.

Fasting and Female Fertility
from http://fasting.ygoy.com/2009/12/09/fasting-and-female-fertility/
=======================

Can fasting be a remedy for older women to become pregnant is the topic of latest studies. It has not yet established yet but the research is carried out in mice. This article gives some facets of the topic.

How fasting is related to fertility:
In ancient times women used to fast to conceive. Several types of fasting were recommended for certain cases of infertility and it was considered that children conceived by taking up penances like fasting are more inclined to spirituality. Fasting is also counted as a home remedy for women who are unable to bear children. A short tern fast of two or three days is recommended at regular intervals by women who have problems in conceiving.

Research Studies in Mice:
The first study on this topic was done by Jonathan Tilly and his colleagues at Harvard Medical School, Boston. Adult female mice were considered and the calorie intake of the mice were reduced by 40 percent. This was observed for 12 months as the reproductive year of the mouse was increased to one year. The results were compared to the mice that were fed normally or fed more, as they like.

The results showed that the eggs of the mice that fast had fewer chromosomal abnormalities that those mice who did not fast. These abnormalities were studied because chromosomal abnormalities increase the risk of birth defects and miscarriage in both mice and humans.

The results also showed that the mice that fasted also produced more eggs compared to mice who were fed. The findings also relate that fasting artificially stimulated the formation of eggs. The eggs found were more susceptible to develop into embryos after fertilization. In other the results showed that the quality of the eggs of mice that fasted were good compared to those mice that did not fast.

The above content is only the information about the research but not the report or authentication of the results of the experiment.

Fasting could extend female fertility

Journal references:
Tilly: Aging Cell, DOI: 10.1111/j.1474-9726.2008.00409.x;
Van Gilst: Science, DOI: 10.1126/science.1178343
=========================================
Could fasting allow older women to have children? That's the implication of two new studies which suggest that restricting food may offset some of the loss of egg quality and quantity that comes with ageing. The findings may even enable new eggs to be created from scratch.

It's not yet clear whether the findings extend to humans, but a better understanding of the mechanisms involved might eventually make it easier for older women to bear children.

In the first study, Jonathan Tilly and his colleagues at Harvard Medical School reduced the calorie intake of adult female mice by 40 per cent and found that significantly fewer of their eggs had abnormal chromosomes once the mice reached the age of 12 months – advanced reproductive years in mouse terms – compared with mice that were allowed to eat as much as they liked.

Such abnormalities in eggs are known to increase the risk of miscarriage and birth defects in older mothers, both mouse and human.

Eggs up

Calorie-restricted mice also produced more eggs than normal mice when their ovaries were artificially stimulated, and their eggs were more likely to develop into embryos upon fertilisation.

"Our data show that adult-onset caloric restriction prevents the age-related decline in oocyte [egg precursor cell] quality and quantity," says Tilly, who is presenting his results at a meeting organised by the SENS (Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence) Foundation in Cambridge, UK, next week.
Last year, Tilly's team announced that restricting the calorie intake of adult mice extended the mice's reproductive lifespan and increased the chances of their offspring surviving after birth.

"It continues to show how little we know about the mechanisms that are involved in regulating [egg] growth, development and quality," says Evelyn Telfer of the University of Edinburgh, UK, who also researches egg development. "Manipulating nutrition is clearly modifying underlying signalling pathways."

One possibility is that restricting food intake affects the interactions between developing eggs and their support cells, says Telfer. Or it could alter the activity of germ-line stem cells, which some think could replenish depleted ovaries under the right conditions.

Starving worms

That's where the second study may provide insights. Marc Van Gilst and Giana Angelo at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle have shown that during starvation, adult nematode worms can put reproduction on hold – destroying any existing sex cells and regenerating a new crop of healthy eggs from a few remaining stem cells once conditions improve.

Worms that undergo this process also seem to extend their lifespan up to threefold.

Van Gilst suspects that a signalling protein called NHR-49, already known to be involved in the metabolic response to fasting, is involved: "In worms that contained an inactive NHR-49 gene, reproductive recovery and fertility after starvation were severely impaired," says Van Gilst.

From worm to human

He thinks a similar process might exist in humans. This is yet to be tested, however, and the trigger needed to activate such a signalling pathway has not been identified. "It might have evolved to help our ancestors preserve fertility during times of famine," he says.
One protein that might do the job in humans is called PPAR gamma, which is analogous to NHR-49 and appears to control the rate of ovulation.
It is also unclear how much caloric restriction would be needed to turn on such a system in humans – assuming we have it at all. But if the underlying signalling molecules could be identified, and ways found to manipulate them, it could help treat a variety of fertility problems and even extend female reproductive lifespan, says Telfer.
"Fundamentally, if you can understand how eggs initiate into the growing population and you can slow it down, then you would be extending female fertility."

Shrinking Fibroids & Increasing Fertility Naturally
WATER FASTING
from http://shrinkingfibroids.blogspot.com/2009/02/water-fasting-estrogen-dominance-and.html

Hi,

Just want to share this info that Water-only fasting really work. The detox was still working even after I broke the fast by eating fresh fruits & vegetables. I could no longer feel any solid mass on my abdomen.

I tried water-only fasting for 2 weeks this past August. After I broke the fast, I was still eating mostly fresh fruits & vegetables. In August, I went to get sonogram, the fibroid shrank by more than 30% after water-only fasting. Then in Sept and part of Oct, the detox was still ongoing because I was eating raw garlic mixed with fresh squeeze juices. I also sprinkle curry spice on all my food. Garlic & curry support the liver in the Phase II detox.

In Sept & early Oct, I had stabbing pain in the area where I had the fibroid. At first, I was scared that it was growing bigger. But it was simply detox reactions. The raw garlic I eat everyday is supposed to cut off the blood supply of tumor. Therefore, the fibroid was losing blood supply.

One week after the stabbing pain stopped, I couldn't feel any solid mass, I only felt some soreness in my right abdomen. It's been about 2 weeks now, even the soreness feeling is gone. And of course, I couldn't feel any solid mass anymore.

Besides getting rid of the large fibroid via water-only fasting, my blood pressure is lowered. It was originally around 120/70-ish. After the water-only fasting & continuing with healthy food, my blood pressure drop to 100/60-ish range. It's a 20 point reduction in blood pressure.

Water-only fasting is truly amazing. Of course, you should check out library books on Fasting before starting it. I used this book written by Bruce Fife that I borrowed from the library. It's a good book, I highly recommend it to people to treat many ailments.

Dairy foods and ovulation
(From http://www.ivf1.com/dairy-foods-ovulation-infertility/)
=========================================

Lactose is the main carbohydrate in milk and other dairy foods. In the intestine, lactose is broken down into two sugars, glucose and galactose, which are further broken down and used by the body.

The ability to breakdown these sugars is an important factor in normal ovarian development. for example, women with a disease that prevents the breakdown of galactose often develop premature ovarian failure.

Some researchers have suggested that high intake of milk and dairy products may increase the risk of infertility due to ovulatory dysfunction in otherwise healthy women. However, study results are not consistent. In fact, there are reasons to believe that dairy foods may be beneficial to ovarian function, and that not all dairy foods have the same relation to fertility. For example, dairy food intake has been associated with a lower risk of developing insulin resistance, which is a cause for not ovulating.

In order to try and better answer these question, researchers conducted a study to determine whether the intakes of low-fat dairy foods, high-fat dairy foods, lactose and other nutrients concentrated in dairy foods were associated with infertility due to ovulation problems in a large group of otherwise healthy women.

The Nurses Health Study II started in 1989 when more than 116 000 female registered nurses aged 24–42 completed and returned a mailed baseline questionnaire. The nurses have been followed every 2 years since then with additional questionnaires. Only married women, with available dietary information and without a history of infertility, were analyzed for this study.

In total, 18 555 women were found without a history of infertility who tried to become pregnant or became pregnant during the 8-year period that the study was conducted.

Dietary assessment
The nurses were asked about more than 130 food items and 11 individual dairy foods. Participants were asked to report how often, on average, they consumed each of the foods and beverages during the previous year. This questionnaire had previously been validated in other studies as an accurate way to estimate a persons intake of dairy foods and nutrients concentrated in them.

The women differed in several important areas. Women who consumed more low-fat dairy foods were less likely to smoke or drink high amounts of coffee and exercised more. Women who consumed more high-fat dairy foods were more likely to drink alcohol, more likely to have previously been pregnant and were less likely to exercise. In addition, women consuming more dairy foods, regardless of fat content, were also more likely to use multivitamins and less likely to use oral contraceptives.

Infertility assessment
During the eight year study, 26 971 pregnancies or pregnancy attempts were reported by among 18 555 women. 438 women reported developing infertility, underwent medical evaluation and were diagnosed with an ovulation problem.
Results of this study
Intake of total dairy foods was not associated with risk of ovulatory problems.

However, women who had a high intake of low fat dairy food were more likely to experience ovulation problems. An increase in low-fat dairy foods of 1 serving per day was associated with an 11% greater risk of an ovulation problem resulting in infertility.

Women who had a high intake of high fat dairy foods were less likely to have ovulation problems.

Interestingly, the researchers were not able to demonstrate a correlation between intake of lactose and the development of ovulation problems.

The results for specific dairy foods generally followed the same way. Among the low-fat dairy foods, adding one serving per day of yogurt or sherbet/frozen yogurt was associated with a greater risk of anovulatory infertility. Women who drank one or more servings per week of skim/low-fat milk also had a significantly higher risk compared with women who drank less than one serving per week.

The researchers also tried to identify the type of woman that might be most affected by low fat dairy foods. The strongest associations were for women who were older than 32 years of age, had a lower body mass (less than 25 kg/m2) and who had been pregnant previously.
Results of previous studies
Only two previous studies have examined whether intake of milk or dairy foods could affect fertility in women. In 1994, one study found that the higher amount of milk women drank, the greater the chances for having fertility. However, a 2003 study found that women who drank three or more glasses of milk daily had a 70% lower risk of infertility when compared with women who did not drink milk at all.

Alternative conclusions
It is possible that the diets these nurses followed may have changed as a result of their having problems getting pregnant rather than the other way around. It is also possible that other ingredients found in low or high fat milk may be affecting the chances for ovulation problems The study authors state that they cannot exclude the possibility that lactose, calcium, phosphorus or vitamin D could have had some effect on ovulation in these nurses.

Don't draw too many conclusions
It is also important to point out what the study did not demonstrate. This study was not designed to detect if a specific length of time was necessary to develop problems with ovulation. It also did not show whether switching to high fat dairy consumption would reverse the problems in ovulation that seemed to have occurred in women who had higher intake of low fat dairy foods.

The study controlled for the total amount of calories consumed. It would not be recommended that women increase their calorie intake as this could result in weight gain, which is another cause for ovulation problems.

High fat diets are known to have other significant health issues such as weight gain and heart disease. Women should take these other factors into account before making changes to their diet.

Nice action , eh...
I have loved "The Rock" from his days in the WWE when he was merely wrestling in WWE-RAW. And if he continues to do such movies or better I might like him more.

All the action is worth its time.. looked like Dwayne Johnson aka "The Rock" has evolved as an actor of some sort.. well raw 'action type' actor is what I would call him.

In this movie, he avenges his brother's death after he is released from the jail. The most impressive part were his Magnum revolver and a chevrolet Chevelle, most probably the 1969 model.

He is seen as the ghost as the bad guys call him.. hehehe he .. and by the way his character seems to work, he actually fits being a ghost. If I were one of his opponents, I would have to say .. "Damn you, I just killed you and you are back at me!!"

Amor es Perros

Amor es perros...means Love is a bitch..

Is it true? Well.. it depends on what kind of passion you have for the object of your affection.
With a stronger passion you can generate a huge amount of energy to achieve your goals. It gives you power enough to destroy all the obstacles that come your way.. And then....

Then you realize that you have finally been able to achieve your goal. But the very obstacles you broke, were an important part of your life. And not only that, you are going to regret overcoming them for all of your remaining life.. I think this is the main theme of this movie. It shows that even though we follow our passions, be it our loved ones or some idea we think is worth dying for or a job for which we ignore our family, in the end we would miss the part that we ignored.

Amores Perros is a story of several people connected to each other through vague strands. Each of these people has been passionate for something or somebody. What happens to them and their passion? Watch out.

Really good movie .. as it shows the original picture of life.. but a long one..

The Tourist

Hmmm.. unfortunately.. it is a nice one..
The reason why it is unfortunate is that it is a very typical thriller. But the charm with which Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp play their characters gives this movie a boost, well to it certainly raised its value. I do accept that I just adore Johnyy Depp, and that in this movie he has not been exceptional. But still he does the magic.. Angelina on the other hand looked less beautiful than in Salt..

But it was not a complete waste of time as I was afraid of..before, watching it.
My heart cries to make it seven but its is six, anyway.

127 Hours

Danny Boyle's direction has certainly been eye-catching (like I liked Trainspotting a lot, ). But this time, apart from the initial 15 minutes when Franco is about to start his 127 hours of hell ride in the mountains of Utah.. i.e. just about when the movie actually starts, the movie comes to a deadly halt... and then..

Oops, the movie crawls, barely picking any speed anytime..
So, it's really hard to say whether I really liked this one or not... because I don't like songs which don't have strong lyrics .. at all.. If I have to put "127 hours" in the same context, it certainly lacked content which I might have considered as exciting.

For Colored Girls

Its name might sound too dull .. but the movie kept me on my toes..
And I could not wait till I finished watching it..

Actors are not that great and well-known (except may be Janet Jackson) but that doesn't stop this movie to hit the right note. It depicts the problems in the lives of colored women in the city of Brooklyn. of course, it can be anywhere in the world and the situation would just be the same..

It has got all the reasons for girls and women out there to watch it.. I am sure it might tear your heart apart and will definitely touch the softest corner.

Its theatrical rendition is another reason why I liked its presentation.

Band Baaja Baaraat

Nice and a fantastic movie..
I loved whole of the movie except for the part when things get ugly between Bittoo (Ranveer Singh) and Shruti (Anushka Sharma) after their "kaand" (meaning scandal).
Before it, I was completely blown away by the way with which director (Maneesh Sharma) treated the subject of sex between the couple.. its portrayal was pure bliss.. The way they look and smile after having sex was utterly brilliant, both acting-wise and direction-wise. I think it's too difficult to hold on to a sensitive topic, when its easy to get carried away with either too much of sex or no feelings at all..

All praise to the director and the actor couple..

The fight between the couple was ugly like I said above but when they make up again.. that was perfect too a second time..

I mean I was moving up and down on the waves created by the movie .. So, it has to be a good watch..

Daybreakers

It was so exciting to have found another vampire movie with a modern perspective and futuristic approach to it. Also, Ethan Hawke was my favorite since 1999, when I first saw him in Great Expectations with Gwyneth Paltrow. I expected Willem Dafoe to play some bad role or be the villain himself.. but to my astonishment and for a change, he is a nice guy and actually, the hinge where from Daybreakers takes a turn..

Ethan Hawke is a hematologist working for a vampire company to find an alternative for blood, which the vampires can drink. And as the humans are on the verge of extinction, this alternative is much wanted..

However, there is a twist.. the cure is not what they are searching for, it is what kills them otherwise..

Definitely not a must watch .. but vampire lovers must give it a try..

Unfaithful

Unfaithful is a hell of a movie..
Of course, if you are not married, you may find the content either so less or just full of sexual intensity and relevant for nothing else than sensual pleasure. You may never understand it from the point of view of married woman or man, for some of whom the seemingly normal life starts with a sexual bang and then, grows on to become a less and less palatable phenomenon as it accrues the bitter layers of knowing your partner's flaws and incapabilities. You always want more because you are proud of yourself which acts like a petrol mist on the smoldering fire.

Anyway, Diane Lane is looking so sexy and attractive that it was almost difficult to take your eyes off her .. Richard Gere had a space filling role I guess, no more.
The movie was good both content- and direction-wise, but didn't require a huge acting prowess..
Even then, it is worth about 8 out of 10 points, especially, for making me feel the fire right on my skin..

Phas Gaye Re Obama

Its a light mood, good movie.. may be a must watch for there is no other contender.. From several of Rajat Kapoor's other movies like "Raat Gayi Baat Gayi?", and this one, I kinda started liking him as an actor.. ofcourse, he doesn't give great performance but in his class of actors, he is still doing great I would say..
Another actor that I like very much from this movie and others, is Sanjay Mishra. I like his comedy a lot.. he stays serious, well almost and creates a genuine comic scene..
Do watch it..
